IPL 2019: Mayank Agarwal Hoping to Carry Test Success Into Tournament
Mayank Agarwal has had a dream start to his Test career. The Karnataka batsman had a fine beginning to his career as he had impressed in his first two Test matches. The stylish batsman scored a fine knock of 76 in his debut at the Melbourne Test match. The right-hander went on to score 195 runs in the three innings he played on the tour Down Under. Subsequently, Mayank Agarwal is hoping to carry the Test success in the IPL 2019.
Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal had to wait in the wings for his chance for a long time. He was knocking hard at the selection doors in the last two years and he was finally able to reap fruits for his hard work. In fact, Agarwal was growing his roots in the domestic circuit.
Mayank Agarwal is in fine form.
He was laying down the foundation of the building on which he wanted to lay down the pillars and he made sure that made a strong one. And when the opportunity came his way, he was up and ready to grab his chance with both hands.
In fact, the right-hander is in fine form. He scored a match-winning knock of 85 runs in the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Maharashtra.
“It’s always great to come into a great tournament like the IPL with form and runs under your belt. I have been timing the ball well although the big scores were not coming. But what better place to score runs than the final and it gave me more pleasure because it helped guide Karnataka to the title,” Agarwal told CricketNext from Mohali on Tuesday.
On the other hand, Kings XI Punjab head coach Mike Hesson is all praise for Mayank Agarwal. Former New Zealand coach believes Agarwal would be confident after performing well against Australia in the Test series. Thus, it would be a fine opportunity for the right-hander to grab his chance in the IPL.
Test confidence will help.
“Mayank Agarwal obviously made his Test debut against Australia and he would have got plenty of confidence from his performance over there against a strong attack in different foreign conditions. So look Agarwal has been an outstanding performer as I am sure you will know domestically in all forms.
“T20 has been one such format where he hasn’t nailed yet and I think this is the year for him in terms of, if he gets a role and gets that confidence early, he certainly has that technique which will allow him to play those substantial innings. There is certainly something which we will like to see from him. He is a great fielder and a great attitude. So I am really looking forward to working with him,” Hesson said about Agarwal.
Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal feels the good performance in Australia has helped his confidence level. Agarwal had a fine start to his Test career and he would like to carry the impetus.
Fine start for Agarwal.
“International cricket helps you grow as a cricketer. Making my debut in front of a packed crowd at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, nothing could be more special than that. I have learned the work ethic that is required to succeed at the top level as well as a mental attitude that is needed. I definitely come into this IPL as a much more developed batsman than previous years,” Agarwal, who scored two 70s in his two Tests in Australia, said.
On the other hand, Mayank Agarwal will have his opportunity to prove his mettle in the IPL when Kings XI Punjab will begin their IPL campaign against Rajasthan Royals on 25th March in Jaipur.
