IPL 2019: MI vs DC – It’s Been a Great Journey – Rishabh Pant Following His Carnage at the Wankhede
The young Delhi Capitals (DC) wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant played an outstanding knock to hand his side a 37-run win over Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. Meanwhile, this is Delhi’s first win in the opening game of the season since 2013.
Pant leads the charge
Rishabh Pant came in like thunder and smashed everything that came his way. His 78 off 27 balls including seven fours and sixes each effort has powered Capitals to an amazing 213. The southpaw started the tournament in a grand manner as he looks to strengthen his World Cup chances. Previously, Prithvi Shaw and skipper Shreyas Iyer failed to make an impact at their home ground and Delhi Capitals were rocked early by Mitchell McClenaghan.
But then Colin Ingram joined Shikhar Dhawan for the fourth wicket and they both did a stellar job to bail their team out. Both were dismissed around the same time and one would have thought that will peg Delhi back. But the reverse happened as Pant launched a carnage at the Wankhede. He didn’t show mercy on any bowler, not even Jaspritn Bumrah as the Capitals have put up a fabulous total on the board.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians never looked on course to chase down the target. They lost wickets at regular intervals to go down in the game. Although Yuvraj Singh held things tight from one, he lacked partners from the other end. The likes of Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya – premier T20 players failed to provide any support. But Krunal Pandya looked to support the veteran all-rounder; however, got out in pursuit to match the asking rate.
Yuvraj Singh chipped in a with 35-ball 53 runs knock but it was not enough for Mumbai Indians to seal a victory.
Here is what Rishabh Pant said:
“It’s been a great journey, trying to learn every day in my cricketing career. Always a great feeling when you score runs and the team wins. I always bat according to the situation all the time. Today when I came in, I had to up the ante and so took my chances. It came off tonight.
(On his unorthodox methods) Especially in T20, you have to do something different. Sometimes when bowlers cramp you for room, you got to make your own room. (Whether he is ok with batting at 5) Well, (pauses), glad to bat anywhere the team wants me to,” Rishabh Pant said after the match.
