IPL 2019: Mohammed Shami Will Receive Sufficient Rest – Mike Hesson
Kings XI Punjab head coach Mike Hesson has confirmed that their gun pacer Mohammed Shami will receive sufficient rest in the Indian Premier League. Shami has played consistently in the last six months and it is going to be pivotal to manage the workload of the pacer. It has been a long road for the Indian seamer as he has played regularly in both Test and white ball cricket.
Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab coach has also confirmed that KL Rahul will also get rest, whenever he will need it. In fact, the Indian Premier Leauge has a hectic schedule as the players are always travelling during the tournament.
Shami has done a fine job for the India National Cricket Team in the recent past. The Bengal pacer has bowled with zip and he could be a trump card for the Kings XI Punjab, who are yet to go all the way in the IPL.
Mike Hesson said as quoted by PTI, “It is going to be on a case-by-case basis. I have had chats with K. L. Rahul and Mohammed Shami. They are keen to make a big contribution for KXIP and we are certainly very keen to have them. We will manage them like every player throughout the tournament.”
Hesson confirmed that both KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami will be provided rest whenever they will need it. Former New Zealand stated that both these players are expected to play a key role.
“If they feel little jaded during the course of the IPL, we will rest them. Whether they need extra training or rest, I am not sure how many games we will rest them. We also have to see how the season goes for the team but they both are very keen to make a big contribution.”
Meanwhile, Mike Hesson believes hosts England and India will be the firm favourites for the World Cup. England has played aggressively in the last three years and India is also in good form.
“New Zealand, too, [has] a good chance. Their batsmen are in form at the moment, if the ball swings in England, New Zealand [has] a big chance. Outside of that, India and England are still the two form teams, Australia [is] sneaking up and South Africa [is] useful. Those five sides are ahead of others at the moment,” Hesson contended.
On the other hand, Kings XI Punjab had a fine start to the previous season. However, they had veered off the track in the second phase of the league. In fact, they had won the first five matches out of the seven but went on to win only one in the next seven games.
Kings XI Punjab will begin their IPL campaign against Rajasthan Royals on 25th March in Jaipur.
