Mumbai Indians (MI) went down against Rajasthan Royals by four wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai earlier today which ended their three-match winning streak. While they are still recuperating from their loss, they received another massive blow ahead of their next tie. Windies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph suffered a wrist injury during their match against Rajasthan.
Batting first, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock added 96 runs for the first wicket to set the platform for the batsmen to come. They dominated the bowling dispatching everything to the boundary. They scored 57 runs in the powerplays and looked in superb touch. Since the departure of Rohit Sharma, de Kock continued with his aggressive style of play but wickets kept tumbling from the other end. They pulled things back but a late flourish from Hardik Pandya helped them post 187 runs.
In pursuit, Ajinkya Rahane and Jos Buttler got off to a flying start. They put on the bad deliveries to the boundaries to set the tone for the chase. They added 60 runs for the first wicket before Mumbai Indians drew the first blood. Although Rahane got out, Jos Buttler kept up with the asking rate to keep his side on track. He scored 89 runs off 43 balls including eight boundaries and seven massive sixes. Even though Mumbai Indians got rid of Buttler, Shreyas Gopal ensured they go home safely with three balls to spare.
Meanwhile, during the second innings, Mumbai Indians fast bowler Alzarri Joseph suffered a wrist injury while fielding. The event took place during the 19th over of the game when Shreyas Gopal slapped Hardik Pandya to the extra cover. Joseph put on a great effort chasing it like his life depended on it. However, it struck his wrist as Joseph was screaming in utter pain.
Meanwhile, the injury doesn’t look too bad from outside as he got up after the physio had a look. Even he misses out due to injury, it won’t be a massive problem as they have Lasith Malinga as back up in their ranks.
