Of late, the game of cricket is purely revolving around the money. The players are being paid hefty checks in the franchise and county leagues. Though it is good from one end, the other end of the story is quite worse. Cricketers are opting to play for the counties and franchises rather than opting to play for the nation. In one of those Duanne Olivier is the latest one to join the list. Meanwhile, Dale Steyn makes his voice on the issue.
Recently, Olivier, 26, was one of the stars of the South African summer, taking 31 wickets in five Test matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He was a man of the series against Pakistan after taking 24 wickets at an average of 14.70. For the same, he was given a 2-year contract, which was rejected by the player to sign Kolpal deal.
Coming to Dale Steyn, it has been a brilliant return for him to the game of cricket after injury. The flamboyant fast bowler has delivered the goods incredibly well after return to the professional cricket from a shoulder injury. Recently, he acquired a brilliant record as well.
It is a concern for South Africa – Dale Steyn
Speaking of the Kolpak deal, Dale Steyn quoted that it is up to the individual to consider winning the game or not. Further, he went on to add saying that he won’t consider signing Kolpak deal, as he wants to win the ICC World Cup for South Africa.
Further, Dale Steyn believes that the introduction of Brexit would certainly prevent players from signing the deal, as it is denting the future of South African cricket team.
“I think it’s each person to themselves. I personally do not want to consider it,” Steyn told ANI. I know it is a concern for Cricket South Africa and a very difficult one to stop. Maybe Brexit will prevent Kolpak deals from happening, who knows.”
Dale Steyn believes that there are quite a few teams, who are willing to perform at their best and seal the cup. Further, he is expecting normal English conditions throughout the tournament.
“I would obviously love to win the World Cup for my country, I am expecting normal English conditions for the World Cup,” said Steyn. There are many teams that can win the World Cup. England, Australia, India and more.”
