Mumbai Indians started off their IPL 12 campaign with a defeat against the Delhi Capitals. However, Mumbai had one positive to take from the match which was the emergence of 17-year-old Rasikh Salam Dar. The Jammu and Kashmir speedster made his debut for the Mumbai Indians. When IPL started back in 2008, Rasikh was only 6 years old.
Yuvraj Singh heaped praises on Rasikh Salam Dar and even coach Shane Bond was impressed with the 17-year-old. Salam troubled Shikhar Dhawan in his first spell and conceded only 21 runs in his first 3 overs. It was Rishabh Pant who spoiled his figures in the final over conceding 21 runs. The teenager made his List A debut for Jammu and Kashmir in the 2018-19 Vijay Hazare and first-class debut in the same Ranji Trophy season.
“He is quiet but there is a quiet confidence about him as well in terms of his skills and what he can deliver and that’s what I have really enjoyed about him. I thought there is a certain calmness about him, there is no doubt he would have been nervous,” Shane Bond was quoted as saying by MITV.
“It was not the best start with no-ball yet the whole time he looked pretty composed. So, for someone so young to have that composure, that was great to see and I think he needs that composure if he wants to go forward in this tournament. It was exciting to see him play and I know he would have wanted to get his first wicket under the belt but I am sure that will come someway down the trip,” he added.
Raasikh Salam Dar has got very good skills, at the end, it’s just about complementing those skills. This is where we want you to bowl, this is how your skillset is going to work… then having some strategies in the back-end of the innings and just coping with the pressure and staying calm. He is fairly easy to work with, he has been asking questions, he has been sucking up all the knowledge from myself and Zak (Zaheer)… so, yes he has made a really nice start to the tournament,” the 43-year-old Bond said.
Mumbai Indians will look to get their campaign back on track when they meet the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their 2nd match of the tournament against the Royal Challengers Bangalore tomorrow at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. They are actually known as slow starters in the tournament but they will sure to get back to winning ways.
