IPL 2019: Rasikh Salam Dar is a Special Talent Says Yuvraj Singh

Stylish left-handed batsman Yuvraj Singh has been impressed with the composure and control of swing by young bowler Rasikh Salam Dar who made his IPL debut for the Mumbai Indians in their opening game against the Delhi Capitals. He was pretty impressive and it caught the eye of Yuvraj. The southpaw feels that the Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler is going to emerge as a special talent in the next 2-3 years.

Rasikh swung the ball in the nets that is why the boys wanted to play him. He conceded a four and six in his last two deliveries. Other than that he bowled pretty well”. Yuvraj said to media persons after his half-century in his Mumbai Indians debut.

“I think he did fantastic in his first match in terms of handling pressure. Pretty much like an international game. I feel he is going to be special in the next 2-3 years,” Yuvraj Singh further added.

Rasikh Salam Dar was nervy to start with as he bowled a no-ball in the very first ball he bowled. However, he followed it up with a good bouncer which was pulled by Shikhar Dhawan only to find out the fielder. But as it was a free hit, Rasikh Salam was denied his maiden IPL wicket. He came back strongly since then and apart from conceding a four and a six in his last two deliveries, Salam was pretty good and impressed on his debut.

The 17-year-old from Jammu and Kashmir is indeed a special talent and if nurtured well in the next few years, he could go onto break into the national team pretty soon. He is still raw and needs the ideal guidance. Even bowling coach Shane Bond is excited with the young prospect and said he was one of the better bowlers for Mumbai during the opening clash.

Shane Bond’s take on Rasikh Salam Dar

“It was a challenging start but as I said in the pre-camp, things are going to go wrong at times. You are going to bowl a no-ball but the easy thing for Rasikh to do would have been to go to pieces he certainly didn’t. I thought he showed great composure and was one of our better bowlers today,” said Bond after the end of the match.

Mumbai Indians lost their opening match against the Delhi Capitals by 37 runs courtesy a special knock from the blade of Rishabh Pant. The youngster smashed a sensational 78 of 27 deliveries which were studded with 7 fours and 7 sixes. Delhi gave Mumbai a mammoth target of 215 to chase. Mumbai fought hard but eventually fell 37 runs short of the target.
