It has been a splendid day at the office for Delhi Capitals. The captaincy record is going better and better with each game for Shreyas Iyer, who is marshalling the troops to perfection. They won their first game of the tournament by a fair margin against star-studded Mumbai Indians, courtesy Rishabh Pant.
In the first innings, it was three left-handers Shikhar Dhawan, Colin Ingram and Rishabh Pant, who stood tall for Delhi Capitals. For Mumbai, Mitchell McClenaghan was brilliant with the ball.
In reply to the chase, it was only Yuvraj Singh, who showed a fair bit of grit and determination in the middle. Apart from him, none of their batsmen stood in the middle to make things fall in place for the team.
Rishabh Pant is a destructive ward – Shreyas Iyer
Meanwhile, speaking of the game, the skipper of Delhi Capitals Shreyas Iyer lauded the batting effort of Rishabh Pant. He quoted that Pant has matured over the years and displayed his class in the middle, especially, after those four dot balls.
”Pant is a really destructive ward, that’s the only thing I can say about him. He has matured over the years. Today, he played four dot balls early on and then just took them apart. That’s where the maturity comes in. He’s an amazing character to be with,” Shreyas Iyer said.
Our preparation was amazing – Shreyas Iyer
Further, he went on to add saying that the preparation has been fantastic for the team. Iyer appreciated boys for displaying their class and revealed a funny conversation that happened between him and Kagiso Rabada.
”I was really prepared to take down captaincy as I had been leading India A team as well as my domestic teams. So, I was getting used to leading different personalities. We had been preparing and training well for the season. There isn’t any secret but when he came here, the training ticked all the boxes. Our preparation was amazing and the team atmosphere is really great as well,” he added.
On Kagiso Rabada:
Off all the bowlers, Kagiso Rabada looked a class apart. He did exceptionally well to make things fall in place for the team. Revealing a conversation, Iyer quoted that Rabada wanted to save energy in the nets to perform in the match.
”Yesterday after the nets, he (Rabada) asked me ‘Did you see me a bowl?’ and I told him that he wasn’t bowling at his full tilt. He said ‘I am reserving the energy for the game,” he added.
All in all, it has been a splendid game for Delhi Capitals. They started things well and would hope for the continuation in the tournament. Now, they are placed at top of the table with a good run rate. In the next assignment, they will lock horns against Chennai Super Kings.
