IPL 2019: Rishabh Pant Is The Next Big Thing For Us: Yuvraj Singh

Rishabh Pant, on Sunday, re-ignited his World Cup chances with a blistering knock for Delhi Capitals against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. There were big question marks over Pant’s World Cup spot in the wake of his dismal show against Australia in the last two ODIs. However, the youngster revived his chances with a stunning breathtaking batting display in the third match of the ongoing IPL.
Pant took the Mumbai bowlers to the cleaners as he blazed away to a 27-ball 78 not out to propel Delhi to 213 for 6 after being put into bat. The hard-hitting batsman smashed seven fours and many maximums during his demolition act. Not a single bowler was spared by Pant even his India teammate Jasprit Bumrah – one of the best bowlers in the world right now.
In reply, Mumbai Indians failed to get going. They lost their skipper Rohit Sharma for just 14 runs before Suryakumar Yadav and Quinton de Kock joined him in the hut too, leaving Mumbai reeling at 45 for 3.
From that point, Mumbai never looked in contention to even challenge Delhi. Veteran batsman Yuvraj Singh fought a lone battle and scored a fighting fifty but it eventually went in vain. Mumbai Indians were finally bowled out for 176 with four balls remaining.
Speaking at the end of the game, Yuvraj praised Pant while also admitting that he is not sure about Pant’s World Cup chances.
“I can’t really say about (World Cup) selection but Rishabh was outstanding today,” Yuvraj told reporters at the post-match media conference.
“He (Pant) had an outstanding season last year as well. He is playing well in Test matches as well. To score two hundreds overseas at such an age (21 years) shows his character. It is important that we groom him well and hopefully, he is the next big thing for us,” added Yuvraj who scored 53 runs.

Pant, meanwhile, is in contention for a World Cup spot. A goof outing this season can very well see him catch the flight to England for the mega-event that gets underway on May 30.
