Mohammed Shami has rediscovered himself in the last one year and has returned to the ODI setup of the Indian National Cricket team. He has put in the extra yards in training and is yielding the results now. Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) bowling coach Ryan Harris is happy to see the success of Shami after battling injuries and fitness issues.
The Bengal pacer has bowled with consistent fast bowler after losing around 8kgs. He has also been able to stay injury-free over the last 12 months, helping him become a much-improved bowler and Virat Kohli’s go-to man in the five-day format. Speaking about the talented fast bowler, Ryan Harris said he doesn’t have to work too much with him. Also, he is a quick learner and has a good brain – most people like to pick his knowledge about the game.
“I don’t have to work much on him, he does it himself. He has been outstanding around the (KXIP) group, talking about plans, talking to me. Most guys want to pick his brains. If not the best, he is one of the best bowlers in the world at the moment,” Harris told PTI.
Harris relates him with Shami
Ryan Harris during his playing days has also struggled due to some extra weight on his body. The former Aussie cricketer relates how Shami got his momentum back after shedding the addons. Mohammed Shami will be crucial going into the World Cup which starts on May 30 in England and Wales.

“The first couple of days I met him (at KXIP camp), he told me how he improved his fitness and dropped 7-8kgs. How he did some training in hot conditions in Chennai, making him lose weight rapidly. He is bowling with good pace and good consistency and it is good to see that,” he added.

“They (Shami and Bumrah) work well together. You have got Bumrah, who is a bit different and got pace and attacks whereas Shami can just come in and ball stump to stump and does a fantastic job. It is pretty well rounded Indian attack, you have to say,” he concluded.
