IPL 2019: Sandeep Lamichhane Backs Himself for a Consistent Show

The teenage leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane is living his Indian Premier League (IPL) dream. Even though a fewest of the chances, Lamichhane is keen to continue giving his cent per cent. So far, in the IPL 2019, Lamichanne has been one of the rising starts for Delhi Capitals (DC).

While taking about Lamichhane’s opportunities, he featured in just three matches in the eleventh edition of the IPL. In 2018, he has bagged five wickets while giving away 82 runs.

“Last season I played three games. This time if I am getting seven to eight games, I would like to make sure next time I play all the 14 games,” Lamichhane revealed at the post-match press conference.

With this year running, Lamichhane has played five games to snare eight wickets. The first-ever cricketer from Nepal to play IPL is optimistic about his chances to prove his mettle with the ball in hand.

The 18-year-old Lamichhane has set focus on his sheer consistency.

He added he is bound to demonstrate his skills in whatever the opportunities he will get.

“I have always wanted to do my job. I have to prove myself every time I get my chance,” Lamichhane revealed.

On April 20 at Feroz Shah Kotla, Lamichhane bowled his heart out – to eke out Kings XI Punjab’s (KXIP) three wickets before hosts rode on the fifties each from Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Shreyas Iyer.

Lamichhane has bagged the wicket of explosive Chris Gayle, KL Rahul and Sam Curran respectively. But he was a bit expensive while considering the way of his bowling. He conceded 40 runs in his quota of four overs.

“I think yes, probably, it was a much-needed wicket for us. Chris Gayle was looking in good form and he hit 70 runs in 35 or 36 odd balls, he was in brilliant touch. Anywhere you bowled he was just smashing all over the ground. And getting those two wickets in the 13th over, it was really good for us,” Lamichhane further added.

Besides, he’s not worried about what has gone past but he remarked that he would have cherished plenty of chances.

“Sometimes it feels disappointing (being not picked in the playing XI). But at the end of the day, you need good reserves and I think they have got much more knowledge on cricket,” Lamichhane stated.

With a five-wicket win, Delhi has won six matches in 10 matches, Lamichhane is hopeful to pay rich dividends in team’s favour. The hosts overhauled the target of 164 in 19.4 overs.

While shedding light on Feroz Shah Kotla track, Lamichhane said the dew had somewhat been a challenge for the bowlers.

“Pitch was good today, it was turning a bit at the start but after that, it was coming nicely onto the bat. The poor bowling today was due to dew factor. And it was really wet and hard to grip,” Lamichhane inferred.

In their eleventh match, Capitals will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Jaipur on April 22 (Monday).
