IPL 2019: Satire- Cheerleaders Demanding More Money for More than 25 Boundaries
There is no doubt about the fact that the Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest domestic T20 League all across the globe. The competition in the tournament is just next to none which gives a special dimension to the game. Some of the players in the tournament are world class. Most of the players have the ability to change the complexion of the match with both bat and the ball.
Ever since the emergence of T20 cricket, the popularity and charisma of cricket have gone to a whole new level altogether. Given the fast pace and nature of the format, we expect power shots from almost all deliveries. Ever since the 2007 World Twenty20, the concept of cheerleaders became famous and it has had a lasting impact on the game.
There are several fans who visit the stadium to catch a glimpse of the cheerleaders who entertain us with their dance moves when a boundary is scored or a wicket is taken. It is indeed a strenuous job for all the cheerleaders to dance all day and night after every boundary in sultry heat especially in the months of April and May.
Cheerleaders becoming an integral part of IPL
However, there is no denying the fact that it is their job and their getting paid pretty well for their profession. Now imagine a cheerleader asking for a hike in her salary if more than 25 boundaries are hit during a match in the IPL which is mostly the cases in the majority of the games. It is not an easy task for the cheerleaders but in a comical way, the perspective of making money has changed totally in cricket.
Earlier the international cricketers had a permanent job to support their cricketing career. However, with money coming in abundance in the IPL, the nature of the game and the way it is approached has been totally changed over the years. Cheerleaders have become an integral part of T20 cricket.
People who generally visit the stadium or watch in television wait for the dance of cheerleaders after every boundary. There is no doubt that the cheerleaders have attracted a large portion of the public. However, it shouldn’t reach a stage where it becomes bigger than the game. Given the glamour in the game in the modern generation, cheerleaders should be there but it shouldn’t reach a stage where they start demanding more money for more boundaries hit during the match.
During the first few seasons, the Kolkata Knight Riders had also conducted a reality show by the name “Knights and Angels” where cheerleaders were picked for the franchise on the basis of auditions. It goes onto prove why Kolkata Knight Riders are still regarded as one of the most if not the most glamorous franchise in the tournament.
