Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Mohammad Nabi is of the opinion that it will be the local players who will play the most important role for the team who goes on to lif the IPL title. While Chennai Super Kings will lock horns against Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 1, while Delhi Capitals will play the eliminator clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. SRH who has won the title once will miss the services of two of their best players from the group stages in the form of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow.
Warner is still the orange cap holder in the tournament with 692 runs in just 12 games. On the other hand, Bairstow also scored 445 runs in just 10 matches which provided SRH with the perfect start for the majority of the tournament. He still holds the record for the highest individual score this season with a knock of 114 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
SRH all-rounder Mohammad Nabi said that the form of the local players will be important for a team to win the tournament. He gave his ways ahead of the eliminator clash between DC and SRH on Wednesday,
“It is no secret that the likes of Warner and Bairstow did a brilliant job for us, but this is the year of the World Cup and the players had to go back to prepare for the showpiece event.
“However, you cannot sit back on that and look for excuses because those waiting in the wings are also good. There are some good local players in this team and their form matters a lot. Local players must do well for a team to win the tournament,” he told IANS.
SRH had a roller coaster ride this season and lost 8 out of the 14 matches they played. For the first time in the history of Vivo IPL 12, a team with 12 points managed to make it through the playoffs of the competition. Hyderabad literally scraped through after Mumbai Indians thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders in the final league game of the tournament. Mohammad Nabi did agree that there has been a lot of ups and down but that he added that SRH didn’t lose a game badly.
“There has been a little bit of ups and downs, but we didn’t lose any game one-sided. The comeback has been well and it is now time to take the game to the next level in the playoff stages. You do have some off days so that has happened to us as well this season. Luck does play an important role and we must now look forward,” he said.
Mohammad Nabi has been an integral part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad. However, he has played just 7 games in the tournament so far. However, the Afghanistan all-rounder feels that it is the right combination and winning matches is quite more important than the personal glory in a cash-rich event like the Indian Premier League.
“Opposition is taken into account when making the playing XI, so you have to sometimes sit out and there is no reason to complain and you just have to be ready for when you get the opportunity. The captain and coach pick the team also take a look at who we have on the other side. This is part and parcel of playing in a league of this standard,” he further added.IPL
