Delhi Capitals got back to winning ways by beating Kolkata Knight Riders in a thrilling super over after the game ended in a tie.

With the game ending in a tie after 40 overs of exhilarating display, Delhi Capitals scored 10 for 1 in the super over. In reply, the Knight Riders started well with Andre Russell dispatching Kagiso Rabada for a four on the first ball. However, Rabada bowled a dot delivery before castling Russell and then went on to defend the total.

The tied game:

Chasing 186, Delhi Capitals started poorly with their experienced opener Shikhar Dhawan departing for just 16. However, before the Knight Riders could make further inroads in the game, Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw steadied the ship. The two initially took their time before going all out to take the game away from the visitors.

By the end of the tenth over, Delhi were 82 for 1. In the next over, Shaw hit Kuldeep Yadav for two sixes and a four to reach his fifty off 30 deliveries.

Andre Russell then gave the Knight Riders the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Iyer and ending the 89-run stand.

However, Shaw kept going strong but unfortunately missed his first IPL ton by just one run. His 99-run knock came off just 55 balls and contained 12 fours and 3 sixes. The game then turned interesting when 6 runs was needed off the last over.

Colin Ingram and Hanuma Vihari could score only 4 off the first four balls before the latter was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav on the fifth. With 2 needed off the last ball, Ingram and Harshal Patel could only score one with the former getting run out while attempting a second, thus forcing the super over.

Earlier in the game,  Kolkata Knight Riders recovered from a disastrous start to post a competitive total of 185 for 8. By the time, the Knight Riders had entered the tenth over of their innings after being asked to bat first, they were reeling at 61 for 5. Nikhil Naik, Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill were all back in the hut.

However, Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik revived the innings and stitched together 95 runs for the sixth wicket to bail the team out of trouble.

As expected, Russell was the aggressor during the stand while Karthik played the role of the second fiddle.

Continuing his red-hot form with the bat, Russell hit the Delhi bowlers all around the park. He scored 62 off just 28 balls before falling to a short ball from Chris Morris. The West Indies star slammed 4 boundaries and 6 sixes during his whirlwind knock. Dinesh Karthik also completed his fifty off 33 deliveries before being dismissed by Amit Mishra. Piyush Chawla and Kuldeep Yadav then hit some boundaries at the end to take the team to a competitive score.
