Mumbai Indians have beaten Chennai Super Kings by 46 runs in the 44th match of the IPL 2019. Mumbai Indians had posted 155 runs after Suresh Raina, the stand-in captain of Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to bat first. Once again it was a difficult pitch to bat on at Chennai. The ball was gripping and holding onto the surface and the shot-making was arduous.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians lost the wicket of Quinton de Kock when he was flummoxed by a slower one from Deepak Chahar. However, Evin Lewis and Rohit Sharma were able to add a fine partnership of 75 runs. Lewis, who was playing his first match of the season, scored almost a run-a-ball knock of 32 runs from 30 balls.

Mumbai had scored 155.

Rohit Sharma finally got back amongst the runs as the Mumbai Indians captain scored a fine knock of 67 runs from 48 balls. The right-hander scored six fours and three sixes in his knock.

However, Mumbai Indians could not get runs in the middle overs. The visitors could add only 44 runs in the seven overs from 11-18. The Chennai spinners didn’t let the tourists off the hook as they made most of the spinning situations.

Mitchell Santner was the pick of the spinner as he scalped two wickets and gave away 13 runs in his four overs quota. However, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard were able to add 27 runs in the final two overs to give finishing touches to their team.

CSK kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

On the other hand, the hosts kept losing wickets at regular intervals and never got going in their run-chase. The in-form batsman Shane Watson was dismissed on an innocuous delivery which was bowled by Lasith Malinga. Watson found Rahul Chahar at short fine leg.

The standing skipper Suresh Raina got a top edge which was easily taken by Suryakumar Yadav. Krunal Pandya was able to find the gulf between bat and pad of Ambati Rayudu to hit the top of the stumps. Subsequently, Kedar Jadhav chopped the ball back onto the stumps when he was attempting a cut shot against Krunal Pandya.

Murali Vijay, who had the rub of the green on his side earlier on in the innings when Anukul Roy had fluffed a simple catch, was taken brilliantly by Suryakumar Yadav after scoring 38 runs. Dwayne Bravo was bamboozled by Lasith Malinga as he could not pick a slower ball.
