IPL 2019: Virat Kohli’s RCB Ropes in Mithun Manhas as an Assistant Coach
Former Delhi skipper and Jammu and Kashmir’s renowned cricketer Mithun Manhas will don the assistant batting coach’s hat for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2019) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) led by Virat Kohli.
So far, RCB hasn’t been able to lay hands on the coveted trophy even after making it to the finale of the IPL on three occasions. It would be interesting to see whether they would be able to break the duck or continuing on struggling during their upcoming season.
Moreover, Gary Kirsten is at the helm of affairs as the head coach whereas, Ashish Nehra will nurse the bowling coach. The addition of Manhas in the support staff will be an added advantage for the Bengaluru-based
The 39-year-old Manhas has expressed delight to work alongside experienced South African veteran Kirsten.
Interestingly, he will have a chance to work alongside, former India and Delhi paceman Nehra.
Manhas aims big:
The right-handed batsman Manhas has shown keen interesting in helping RCB to lift their maiden IPL title.
“We are looking forward for winning the IPL title this season,” Manhas told Daily Excelsior, Jammu and Kashmir’s one of the leading English newspapers.
In 2015-16, Manhas was introduced by the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) as a mentor-cum-player for the J&K team.
Owing to his previous coaching stints, Minhas has served as the assistant coach of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) for the eleventh edition of the domestic professional league.
In 55 IPL outings, the all-rounder managed to score 514 runs at an average of 22.35. He remained unbeaten on 55 occasions in 38 innings.
Manhas has a strong CV:
Talking about his domestic achievements, Manhas has helped North Zone to lift Deodhar Trophy. He smashed two consecutive hundreds while serving as an interim skipper following the absence of wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Mongia.
Apart from his coaching stints in India, Manhas has served as the coach for Bangladesh’s Under-19 team.
While shedding light on Manhas’s first-class leg, he has accumulated 8554 runs in games. He is fourth on the list among highest run-scorers after Wasim Jaffer (11225), Amol Mazumdar (9202) and Devendra Bundela (9201).
Overall, in 157 First-class matches, Manhas amassed 9714 runs at an average of 45.82. He registered 27 centuries and 49 half-centuries under his belt in 244 innings.
Besides, the twelfth edition of the IPL will kick off on March 23. As of now, the schedule is yet to be decided due to the clash with General Elections, this year.
