Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of the few, who have seen the rise of Virat Kohli right through his career. Though he started poorly, the franchise stuck to him hoping for the better. As they expected, he grown a lot in stature and knocked many memorable knocks for the team but unfortunately, couldn’t deliver with his captaincy. Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir feels Kohli would be lucky to get such a franchise.
Despite losing the tournaments, they asked Virat Kohli to lead the franchise once again. Under his captaincy, they reached finals once when they failed to defend heavy target on the board against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Bangalore.
I don’t see Virat Kohli as a shoot captain or tactical captain – Gautam Gambhir
The former Indian opening batsman Gautam Gambhir quoted that Virat Kohli isn’t a tactical captain for him. Further, he doesn’t want Kohli to be compared with Rohit Sharma or MS Dhoni, who achieved quite a success in the tournament.

“Still a long way to go. I don’t see him as a shoot captain or a tactful captain. And he hasn’t won the IPL. So ultimately a captain is only as good as his record till the time you don’t win the IPL. There are people who have won the trophy three times – MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. So I think he has a long way to go,” Gambhir said to TimesNow.
Virat Kohli is lucky:
Further, he went on to add saying that Virat Kohli is pretty lucky in those terms. Gambhir added that he has seen franchises removing captains for their poor show even in a single tournament.

”You cannot compare him to someone like Rohit or Dhoni at this stage because he has been part of RCB and captaining RCB for the last seven to eight years and he has been very lucky and should rather thank the franchise that they stuck to him because not many captains have got such a long run where they haven’t won a tournament,” Gambhir told on Star Sports’ analysis show ahead of IPL 2019.
Virat Kohli has led RCB in 96 matches which included games in the presently-defunct Champions League T20 as well. Under him, the team has won 44 out of these encounters with 45.83%
In total, Mahendra Singh Dhoni stands atop in the list with 94 wins (59.12%) out of 159 matches. Rohit records a win percentage of 58.43 with 52 victories out of 89 matches. Even Gautam Gambhir has a better record than the current Indian skipper.
