The Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday witnessed a power-packed encounter between Mumbai Indians and the Kings XI Punjab. Chasing a towering target of 198 runs, the home side powered by interim skipper Kieron Pollard took them home with three wickets in hand. It was a blockbusting tie with the course of the game shifting like a pendulum. The match witnessed some heated exchanges including a stare down between Hardus Viljoen and Hardik Pandya.
Batting first, Chris Gayle and KL Rahul provided an outstanding start adding 116 runs for the first wicket. The big Jamaican was the aggressor smacking everything that came his way. However, after Gayle’s (63) dismissal, Mumbai Indians fought back their way picking four quick wickets including two by Hardik Pandya. But KL Rahul batted till the end to bring the fourth century of the season and finish on a high at 197 runs.

While many thought Punjab have an advantage over the game, Mumbai Indians skipper for this game; Kieron Pollard had some other plans. He played one of the best knocks of his life scoring 83 off just 31 deliveries including ten sixes and three boundaries to lead a superb run-chase. Pollard got support from the openers while Hardik Pandya and Alzarri Joseph also provided thier support to chase down the target.
The epic clash saw both teams giving their every inch to win the tie; however, the home side ended on top at the end. Meanwhile, during the second innings, Hardus Viljoen gave a stare-down to Pandya. The fans generally associate this kind of event with football and wrestling matches and it was a new incident but had everything was done in good sportsman spirit. During the change of over, Viljoen came down to Hardik Pandya and looked at his eyes before exchanging some words. However, both parted with a smile on their face, and there was no need for the umpires to intervene.
