IPL 2019; We Are Keeping Things Very Simple – Shreyas Iyer
It has been a scintillating season so far for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2019. The new skipper Shreyas Iyer is doing an incredible job for the team, where they ended their group stage with yet another victory against Rajasthan Royals.
Getting into the details, initially, it was Rajasthan Royals, who won the toss, elected to bat first. But, things never looked in control for them, as Rahane and Livingstone walked back quickly to make things look bleak for the team. He was quickly followed by Sanju Samson as well.
Riyab Parag single-handedly helped his side to put a decent total on the board. If not his half-century, it would have been worse for Rajasthan Royals in the middle overs. In the end, all they managed was 115 runs on the board. Ishant Sharma and Amit Mishra picked three wickets to their name.
In reply to the chase, Shaw and Shikhar started things off in a flash. However, the double-wicket over from Ish Sodhi changed things dramatically. However, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant changed the complexion of the game with their brilliant striking in the middle.
They let us express – Shreyas Iyer
Speaking of the victory, Shreyas Iyer quoted that the impact of Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting has been brilliant on the team. He believes that their presence made a good change in approach for the youngsters.
”From the last year, our players have become a lot more open and the support staff have given us the freedom to express ourselves. Also we are keeping things very simple and that helps. It has been amazing with them being around as they carry a lot of experience. Reading their brains has been amazing for us youngsters and the tips they give us during a match has been great. Shikhar has been great for us, he’s won us many games and it’s good having him around the team – he has a lot of banter and I enjoy his company.”
There is no senior or junior in the team –
Further, the flamboyant skipper quoted that there is no such thing like a senior or junior in the team. He added that Amit Mishra has always been brilliant for the team when the pitch assists him. Iyer also showered words of praise on Rishabh Pant.
”With Mishi Bhai, I have to be around him and keep telling him to back himself with all his experience. It is not difficult because I have been playing with him for five years now. Even though he is experienced, he listens to me. There is no senior or junior in this team at the moment. When I went in, I hit two sixes and either Rishabh or I had to go after to chase it down thinking about the net run-rate. But unfortunately, I fell, but Pant played really well to take us home,” he added.
All in all, it has been a great day at the office for Delhi Capitals. Now they would hope Mumbai Indians lose their game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday night.
