So far, it has been a horrific season for Royal Challengers Bangalore in Indian Premier League 2019. They lost six games on a trot in the tournament thus finding themselves on the bottom of the table with a poor net-run-rate as well. Meanwhile, one of the pillars of RCB, AB de Villiers makes his voice on the hapless journey.
They lost the game against every franchise in the tournament so far with the game against Kings XI Punjab to be played. They were unfortunate in fetching victories in many ways. Either the umpiring blunder or the poor fielding and the weak bowling, RCB never got that boost to seal the momentum.
Every player is a fielder – AB de Villiers
Speaking of the dismal run of form, the superstar AB de Villiers quoted that the state of the team can be revealed by their fielding effort in the middle. He believes that the collective fielding effort and the hunger to achieve is something, which helps the team to taste the success.
“More often than not, in cricket, you can assess the state of a team by the way they field. Each player is a batsman or a bowler, and it is understandable that their primary focus is on batting or bowling… but every player is also a fielder and, in my view, you need a collective hunger and desire to operate as a strong unit in the field,” De Villiers wrote in response to Kirsten’s question.
We must stay positive and stay together –
Further, he also highlighted the margin of the loss. The games against Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders were close. Against Mumbai, the umpiring blunder saw them losing the game while against KKR, poor bowling display saw the wrong side of things.
“Maybe that’s where we are failing. Our fielding in this tournament has been very poor, and we simply can’t afford to be dropping multiple chances in every match. Of course, the margins are small. We might easily have beaten MI and KKR at home,” he wrote.
He also believes that 20 runs more against Delhi Capitals would have given them the chance to win the game. All in all, AB de Villiers feels that the team should stay together and battle it out in the remaining games.
”With another 20 runs on Sunday, we might have beaten DC at home as well. We could be sitting here with three wins from six matches, in contention. Instead, we must stay positive and stay together,” he added in his column to Times of India.
Well, it would be interesting to see how they would approach the remaining part of the tournament. Currently, they got a much-needed break from the tournament and will head into the tournament by taking on Kings XI Punjab.
