Blue is the jersey where Yuvraj looks the best and it was no different in his first game for three-time IPL Champions. Though he couldn’t take his franchise to a victory, Yuvraj won the hearts of every Indian with a fighting half-century. His innings had a glimpse of the old flair of Yuvraj.
Coming into bat at a precarious situation, Yuvraj Singh began with a few mistimed shots. It is quite understandable especially given the fact that he has been out of action for a long time. He went hammers and tongs during Axar Patel’s over. The southpaw smashed 3 sixes and 5 fours during his fluent knock of 53 runs which came in 35 deliveries.

Mumbai Indians bowlers had a terrible day at the office and conceded 214 runs which put immense pressure on Mumbai Indians from the outset. Yuvraj Singh came in at No 4 and played some exceptional shots. He was quite severe on the spinners and struck all of the 3 sixes against them. He struck a few good shots of the pacers as well.

Though he never looked anywhere close to his best, Yuvraj will look to believe that it is the start of something special. He is a fighting character and is known to break into the national team from hopeless situations. Hence hopes are still not dimmed for Yuvraj as he might still make an India comeback in the 2019 World Cup.
Over the past few months, India has tried to solve the No 4 issue by appointing many players at that particular position. However, none of the players has managed to seize the opportunity and cemented their place. Hence the spot is still up for grabs and if Yuvraj Singh has a terrific season for the Mumbai Indians you never know. The southpaw might still make the cut.
Yuvraj Singh might be in the reckoning for India’s No 4 spot
The Indian selectors have informed that the IPL performances won’t count when it comes to World Cup selection. However, there is no doubt about the fact that in such a big tournament like the IPL, performances will be counted and it will be a big tournament for the fringe players. After his impressive knock, Yuvraj Singh has surely raised a question or two to the selection committee.
Yuvraj is a big match player and has the experience of playing in all conditions. He was in the team during the 2017 Champions Trophy but had a relatively mediocre time with the bat. Yuvi was part of the squad in the next series in Windies. However poor performances meant he was again dropped from the squad.

The stylish southpaw hasn’t made a return to the Indian squad since. Mumbai Indians is a franchise where Yuvraj will look to flourish and express himself as a player. After today’s knock, you cannot rule out the prospect of Yuvraj coming in and doing the job for India at No 4 in the 2019 World Cup. However, there is no doubt that he needs consistent performances under his belt and this is just the start of what could be something special in the making.
