Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had the worst possible start to the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). To make things worse, Shimron Hetmyer made a comical error to get himself run out on his debut against Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk Stadium on March 23 (Saturday).
Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh provided the host with a perfect start after MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bowl first. Being on the slower side, Dhoni was quick to bring in Harbhajan with the new ball. He struck in his very second over to get Virat Kohli out to draw the first blood. However, it was a nothing delivery from the off-spinner as Kohli misjudged the pace to find Ravindra Jadeja at the mid-wicket. Sensing the slowness of the strip, Harbhajan exploited it to full effect to make Moeen Ali and AB de Villiers his next two victims.
While Ali looped one back to Harbhajan Singh, de Villiers found Ravindra Jadeja who dived in front to take a brilliant catch after getting a reprieve from the previous delivery. Striving at 38 for three, Royal Challengers Bangalore hoped to build a partnership with Parthiv Patel and Shimron Hetmyer in the crease. To make thing worse, Hetmyer committed a funny error to get himself out to put Bangalore in dire trouble.
The southpaw taps it to the off-side and charges for a single; however, there was no response from Parthiv Patel, and Hetmyer was stranded in the middle. Raina at cover comes quickly and hurls the ball to MS Dhoni who knocks off the bails. Meanwhile, Shimron Hetmyer was nowhere close to coming back.
