IPL 2020 saw Amazon and Unacademy being in the race among major players eyeing the sponsorship title of Indian Premier League according to reports. Since Vivo and IPL parted ways for the upcoming IPL to be held in UAE, several others like Byju’s, Dream 11 are in contention for becoming IPL title sponsors, as per Times of India reports.
The festive season between Dussera in October and Diwali in November is also in focus for players like Amazon. Although the exit of Vivo has been already confirmed this year, but they could return as a sponsor for the next year. Industry experts have ruled out a replacement involving the same amount of money that Vivo had while being the title sponsor.
IPL 2020: BCCI Will Win Even By Getting A Title Sponsor At 1/3rd The Rate Of Vivo Last Year
Vivo, the title sponsor in the previous edition, have pulled off feeling the pressure as anti-China campaigns have emerged in India leading to tension along the border and subsequent ban on several Chinese smartphone applications.
“In fact, it’s a win for BCCI even if they get a title sponsor at 1/3rd the value and two official partners to somewhat make up for the pool. Expect Vivo’s Rs. 440-odd crore pulls to scale down to around Rs. 180 crores and that, mind you, will be a win for BCCI in this market,” they added.
Players In The Race To Get Sponsorship Rights For IPL 2020
Two players, namely Unacademy and Myc ircle11, who are direct competitors of Byju’s and Dream 11, are always looking to make a move to bag the sponsorship rights.
“The BCCI is looking for partners today. If Byju’s decide to support the IPL today and rework the jersey sponsorship numbers going forward, it could be a win for them and BCCI,” say sources.
If Dream 11 who pays Rs. 40 crore per season want to become title sponsors Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in India will expect them to pay an additional Rs. 40 crore from the bid for making up for what they pay as official partners.
“That’s where there’s space for an Unacademy or a MyCircle11 to walk in as official partners. If Dream 11 take the title, Unacademy can step in as official partners. If Byju’s take the title, MyCircle11 can come in. Brands won’t be conflicted,” say sources.
However, Amazon remains the leading contender of the title sponsor for IPL 2020 due to the festive season.
