IPL 2020: BCCI President Sourav Ganguly Visits Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Impressed With New-Look Venue

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly completed his mandatory six-day quarantine and went to the Sharjah Cricket Stadium which is one of the three venues of upcoming IPL 2020. The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played in the UAE this season, where pitches are slow and dry.

The change in venue was commanded because of the increasing cases of COVID-19 in India. The matches in IPL 2020 will be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.

The 13th edition of IPL was originally scheduled to kick off from March 29 was postponed indefinitely after April 15 due to the rising number of coronavirus cases in the nation.

Sourav Ganguly begins his preparation checks for IPL

The former Indian skipper reached UAE on 9th of September and as soon as his mandatory quarantine finished, he began the preparation check for IPL 2020. He first visited Sharjah international ground with IPL chairman Brijesh Patel and COO Hemang Amin to get a first-hand look of the preparations going on.

The Sharjah Cricket Stadium will host 12 matches in IPL 2020. The 1st match of the tournament at Sharjah will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals on September 22.

Sourav Ganguly impressed by the new look of Sharjah

The ground of Sharjah holds a special place in Sourav Ganguly’s heart, where he made many fond memories. Ganguly had an astonishing record on this ground where he scored more than 700 runs, including a hundred and five fifties.

The Sharjah stadium has recently been renovated and new canopies have been set up, including an upgraded royal suite, commentary box and VIP Hospitality boxes in total compliance with COVID-related protocols. Ganguly will next be heading to the other two grounds in Dubai and Abu Dhabi to continue his preparations check.

The IPL 2020 will begin from September 19 till November 10, a total 53-day campaign will see all the eight teams play in UAE. The venue this time is UAE and matches will be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.
