The self-proclaimed Universe Boss Chris Gayle, who will be playing after over a year, is near to break a record in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. Playing for Kings XI Punjab, Gayle needs only 16 runs to enter the club of 4500 runs in the most popular T20 league.
As the KXIP moves to play their first match against Delhi Capitals on Sunday evening, Chris Gayle needs to score 16 runs to enter the elite list. Although he has been an integral part of the Punjab team in past editions, his position in the playing XI might be under doubt since he hasn’t played a competitive match after World Cup 2019 ends.
But the franchise won’t let the veteran to warm benches. So, it will be interesting to see with what team combination KXIP will play against DC in their first match of the tournament.
Chris Gayle will join David Warner, Virat Kohli and others:
If the Universe Boss plays the first match and scores 16 runs, then he will become the only second foreign player after David Warner to do so.
Overall, the veteran batsman will be the sixth player to cross 4,500 IPL runs, after Virat Kohli (5,412 runs in 177 games), Suresh Raina (5,368 runs in 193 games), Rohit Sharma (4,898 in 188 games), David Warner (4,706 in 126 games) and Shikhar Dhawan (4,5679 runs in 159 games).
KL Rahul 23 runs away from 2000 runs mark:
KXIP new captain KL Rahul and batting mainstay KL Rahul is 23 runs away from surpassing the 2000-run mark in IPL. He will become only the 20th Indian to break the 2000 run barrier in the Indian Premier League after batting on Sunday against DC.
Kings XI Punjab is still without an IPL trophy. In the past editions, they had a good start of the tournament but had failed to retain the same performance through the tournament. Their middle-order batting line up has been the problem for that they have bought Glenn Maxwell for this season. With the new captain and head coach as Anil Kumble, KXIP would like to create history this season.
