Chennai Super Kings’ veteran star, Suresh Raina believes IPL 2020 will be full of challenges, players need to have clarity of thought. The Indian Premier League will be played in UAE in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic and will be held in three venues Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah from September 19 to November 10 amid COVID-19 protocols laid down by the ICC and BCCI. CSK all-rounder Suresh Raina said he believes IPL 2020 will be full of challenges, players need to have clarity of thought to succeed.

The BCCI has laid its protocol that Indian players need to test negative five times prior to their training in UAE and will be subsequently tested for coronavirus in every five days during the IPL.

Raina who has been named as the global ambassador of the WTF Sports app said in a webinar

“This IPL would be very interesting to see how the players are thinking,”You are playing in different circumstances and you have a lot of protocol from ICC and at the same time you are going to go through (COVID-19) tests every two-three weeks,” Suresh Raina said.

“So, I would say coming out from all those tests you need to be clear with your head on what you are going to do on the field because at the end of the day when you are playing a sport, you need to enjoy the game,” Raina added.

Fitness Is The Key: Suresh Raina

The key to success will be fitness in this IPL, insisted Raina. After a gap of 7 months playing again on the highest level would be difficult for the players as they get back to the field. However, the right levels of fitness would surely make it easier for them to gain their form back.

“In this pandemic, a lot of challenges have happened (for the players) and fitness is the key. Luckily, we are going early to the UAE. I believe, this all tests will be done before the IPL and we will be in a good frame of mind because we all are sitting at home from last five months and it will be interesting to see how we fare on the field,” he said.

The 33-year-old has enjoyed the IPL thoroughly and has 5386 runs in 193 appearances. A solid hitter of the ball, he is a joy to watch. He has a colossal strike rate of 137.14. Raina is well known to perform under pressure at multiple occasions where he has steered his team to victory. Raina has been out of the Indian team lately, but when it comes to IPL he has been a consistent starter.
