IPL 2020, India Vs South Africa ODI Series Likely To Run Behind Closed Doors

The IPL 2020 can be run behind the closed doors in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. As the situation is becoming more serious in the present condition, the Sports Ministry has recently advised all the national federations, including the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), to organise the unavoidable events without public gathering.

The massive coronavirus outbreak has hugely affected the global market, including global sports. Cricket has now started to face a massive barrier due to this issue. After hugely affecting the 2020 Asia Cup Qualifier, it has forced to postpone the special two-match T20I series between Asia XI and World XI in Bangladesh (Mujib 100 T20 Cup Bangladesh 2020). Now, the future of IPL 2020 is under the dark cloud.

While more than 1,20,000 people have been affected by the Coronavirus, including the death reports of more than 4,000, more than 70 coronavirus cases have been reported in India.

In this critical moment, the Indian government has decided to cancel most of the visas till 15th April 2020. So, there is already a big question mark on the availability of the foreign players in the IPL 2020.

Now, observing the present situation, the Sports Ministry has advised avoiding public gathering in any kind of events.

Union Sports Secretary Radhey Shyam Julaniya has clarified, “All national federations, including the BCCI, have been told to adhere to the guidelines and advisory issued by the ministry of health and public welfare. We have also told them to avoid any public gathering and if a sporting event has to be organised, it should be done without gathering of people.

“It is the state government who has to manage the crowd and who have the power under the epidemic diseases act (Epidemic Act of 1897). If it is unavoidable and it has to be organised, then they should do it without collecting the crowd.”

Later, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju has clarified that there are no restrictions on playing, but the guidelines must be followed in the present condition.

Not only the IPL 2020, the ongoing ODI series between the hosts India and the visitors South Africa will also follow the latest advice. So, current India vs South Africa three-match ODI series has a big chance to be played behind the closed doors.

The circumstances are changing and the board doesn’t really have control over the situation. The IPL Governing Council is meeting in Mumbai on Saturday and have to take a call keeping in mind the diktat handed by the central government.”

According to the IPL 2020 schedule, the tournament will run between 29th March and 24th May 2020.
