Mumbai Indians bowling coach Shane Bond has revealed Jasprit Bumrah wanted to attack Rajasthan with the new ball and back his yorkers. Bumrah ended the match with an impressive four-wicket haul, giving away only 20 runs in his four overs. Mumbai had won the toss and chosen to bat first.
An unbeaten knock of 79 runs from Suryakumar Yadav and a quick 35 form Rohit Sharma and 30 from Hardik Pandya powered Mumbai to a massive target of 194 for the Royals.
Mumbai’s bowling attack was too much to handle for the Rajasthan batsmen except Jos Buttler who scored 70 off 44. RR were all out for 136 in the start of 19th over and MI won by 57 runs. James Pattinson and Trent Boult got two wickets to their name, each.
Jasprit Bumrah tends to get better and better: Shane Bond
Bond has revealed they had a discussion prior to the game as Bumrah wanted to attack RR with the new ball considering the pitch and important players batting up the order. He also stated Bumrah wanted to back his yorkers and use his bouncers as he normally does. Bond was all praises for Bumrah and said he has observed the latter only gets better and better.
“You like to throw some different curveballs to the opposition, Bumrah genuinely wanted to take the new ball so there was a discussion that went on one day before the game against Royals, we obviously have used Bumrah in a defensive manner at the backend of the powerplay.
“It was a fresh wicket and there was grass on it, he has the ability to nip the ball around, we knew Rajasthan’s key players were in the top-order so we wanted to give him an opportunity to get out there, take the new ball and take some wickets for us,” said Shane Bond during the post-match press conference.
“I think it has been a challenge for all the bowlers, coming to play after a break, we are lucky that we had one month here for preparation, Jasprit really wanted to back his yorkers against Royals, he wanted to go back to his strengths and use his bouncer as he normally does.
“That’s Jasprit’s strength, if he is not happy with his performances, he tends to bounce back to a new level. I know, traditionally through IPL, Bumrah tends to get better and better,” he added.
Shane Bond is confident Mumbai Indians will make it to the playoff spots
Shane Bond feels Mumbai are back in their winning flow ad are good as any other team in the tournament. He stated that if they keep playing as they are right now, he is sure they will make it to the playoffs.
“We are as good as any team in this tournament, we have got firepower across the board, if we turn and play our brand of cricket, then we are really tough to beat, we have started to really hit out straps, we are extremely confident that we will be competitive and if we keep playing as we are, I am sure we will be in the playoffs,” Shane said Bond.
Mumbai Indians are the table-toppers right now after winning four matches of the 6 played. They will next face Delhi Capitals on October 11 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
