While the IPL 2020 is reportedly more than one-and-a-half-month away to begin, Rajasthan Royals (RR) has received a massive blow as Jofra Archer will miss the entire season due to his right elbow injury.
The 24-year-old English bowling all-rounder Jofra Archer missed out the last three Tests of the four-match Test series in the ongoing South Africa tour due to the right-elbow injury. He has also missed out the subsequent ODI and T20I series of this tour due to this injury.
This injury will also force Archer to miss out the forthcoming Sri Lanka tour, where England will play a two-match Test series. The Test series will be the part of 2019–21 ICC World Test Championship which will run between 19th and 31st March.
On the other hand, IPL 2020 will possibly run from 29th March to 24th May 2020. Jofra Archer is set to miss out this entire IPL season too as his team Rajasthan Royals has suffered a big blow on this matter.
On Thursday (6th February), the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that Archer will miss out the Sri Lanka tour as well as IPL 2020. The board has claimed that the 24-year-old underwent further scans on his injured right elbow on Wednesday (5th February). Later, it has been confirmed that it is facing a low-grade stress fracture.
Archer will now have to face an injury rehabilitation programme with the ECB medical team. The board is expecting to get him fit ahead of the beginning of the new home international season. Their new home international season will begin on 4th June with The Oval Test against West Indies.
Jofra Archer has played 21 IPL matches in the last two seasons
Jofra Archer made his IPL debut in 2018 season, playing for Rajasthan Royals. He has played 21 IPL matches, and the right-arm fast bowler has taken 26 wickets.
Before getting injured, Archer played in the Centurion Test against South Africa during the 2019 Boxing Day. In that game, he took six wickets (1/65 and 5/102), including a five-wicket haul, but they lost by 107 runs. However, England won that series by the 3-1 margin.
