Man of the moment and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Shivam Mavi extended his gratitude to the KKR management for backing him in his long injury spells. Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti had an incredible Wednesday night in Dubai — taking two wickets each at an amazing economy rate. The pace duo had starred in India’s Under-19 World Cup Campaign in 2018 and were both signed by KKR in the same year.
However, Mavi could only play nine matches in IPL 2018 and was out of IPL 2019 due to stress fracture to his back. Nagarkoti suffered a back injury which kept him out for two seasons. The KKR management stuck with both of their young guns — and now they seem to be paying back with their match-winning performance.
Shivam Mavi stars for KKR against RR
The 21-year-old pacer stated he felt good to dismiss both Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler. He also told he likes spending time with Andre Russell and Pat Cummins and enjoys playing in front of team CEO Venky Mysore and part-owner Shahrukh Khan. He also thanked the KKR management for keeping faith in him and his pace partner Kamlesh Nagarkoti when they were injured for long spells.
“It felt really good to dismiss both Samson and Buttler. I bowled the ball as I had planned to do. It feels really nice to spend time with the likes of Russell and Cummins. We have mixed up with them, they are always around with us,” Mavi told Dinesh Karthik and Nagarkoti in a video posted on iplt20.com.
“It feels really good when Venky Mysore sir and Shah Rukh Khan sir come to watch us play. We were injured but the management showed faith in us and we are grateful for that.”
KKR win their second match of IPL 2020
Rajasthan Royals had the won the toss and chosen to field. KKR went on to score 174 from 20 overs with important knocks from Shubhman Gill (47 runs) and Eoin Morgan (34 runs). The Royals could not bear the wrath of KKR bowlers and could only get 137 runs on the board in 20 overs. KKR won the match by 37 runs.
Once again, Karthik failed with the bat, scoring only one run. Shubhmann Gill’s 47, and Eoin Morgan’s 34, helped KKR get a satisfactory score on the board. Andre Russell quick fired 24 runs off 14 balls to give KKR a boost. All 6 of the KKR bowlers got wickets to their credit.
Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Varun Chakravarthy got two wickets each. Pat Cummins, Kuldeep Yadav and Sunil Narine all bagged one wicket each.
The Kolkata Knight Riders now sit second on the IPL table with 2 victories and one loss to their name. They will next face Delhi Capitals on October 3rd at the Sharjah cricket stadium.
