Royal Challengers Bangalore premier pacer Navdeep Saini might miss action against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday (October 28) if he didn’t recover from his injury in bowling hand. RCB physio Evan Speechly informed that the speedster had split his webbing in the last ball of his over against CSK on Sunday (October 25).
Bowling 18th over, Navdeep Saini walked out of the field after he got hit on the thumb of his right hand. He was immediately attended by a surgeon who treated his injury.
Evan Speechly said that the young pacer had got good treatment and his recovery is being monitored, but clouds loom over his availability for the Mumbai Indians game.
“Saini has split his webbing in the last ball there. He obviously got hit on the thumb on the right hand. He has just split the webbing over there, fortunately, we had a good hand surgeon, he stitched up nicely. So we could just monitor over the night and check it after getting ready for the next game,” said.
RCB wishing over Navdeep Saini’s recovery on time:
Citing the similar incident happened to Virat back then, but he recovered on time and hit 100, Evan said that recovery depends on person to person. He hinted that Saini’s injury might take time to recover because he has injured his bowling figure. He stated that the team is hoping that he recovers on time and might be available for the next games.
“Virat four-five years ago he had it in Kolkata, we managed to stop the bleeding and he smashed a 100 after we got a plastic surgeon who had stitched it,” he continued.
“Unfortunately you cannot compare the two injuries. Some people can manage it and some can’t. Its also because Saini’s injury is on his bowling hand so it puts a lot of pressure on him so I cannot be sure when he will be good to go, I am hoping that he will be good to play in the next game and the rest of the tournament,” Speechly further said.
Although he is a lynchpin for RCB, Navdeep Saini has snared only five wickets in 11 matches at the economy rate of 7.95. He has not been consistent, but his performance has not hurt because other bowlers have managed to take up the burden.
However, if his injuries prolong, RCB is surely going to be in trouble because they are close to qualifying for playoffs.
