Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has hailed his side for their win against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL opener on September 19. CSK won the match by five wickets with an important knock of 71 runs from Ambati Rayudu, which helped them chase the target of 163 set up by Indians with ease.
The MI vs CSK rivalry is considered the biggest in the IPL — and often termed as the ‘El Clasico of IPL’. The last time these two sides faced each other was in the IPL 2019 final which MI won by a single run, so CSK had revenge in their minds.
Both the sides are missing their veteran players in Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina for CSK and Lasith Malinga for MI. They have all withdrawn from the tournament citing personal reasons.
Ravindra Jadeja is all hyped up after first win in IPL 2020
Even though Jadeja conceded 42 runs off his overs, he also managed to get two important wickets for his side. MI’s Saurabh Tiwary who settled for a bit scoring 42 runs off 31 balls after they lost early wickets was sent back to the pavilion by Ravindra Jadeja. He also managed to get the wicket of all-rounder Hardik Pandya who came with his usual aggression hitting two sixes in 10 balls to score 14 runs.
“Felt awesome to be back doing what I love. Super win. Let’s go @chennaiipl #whistlepodu”.
CSK bowlers took them winning ways against MI
South African pacer Lungi Ngidi put on a good show in the IPL opener going home with 3 wickets. CSK speedster Deepak Chahar who had just returned a few days back after being treated for COVID-19 also bagged two wickets.
Ravindra Jadeja got two wickets to his name, while Piyush Chawla and Sam Curran both got one wicket each. The CSK bowling was effective to only allow Mumbai Indians to set a target of 163, which is arguably considered an easy target to achieve. Important knocks from Faf Du Plessis (58 off 41 balls) and Ambati Rayudu (71 runs off 48 bowls) made it attainable for CSK.
Chennai Super Kings will face Rajasthan Royals in their second IPL fixture, on September 22. The match will be held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
