Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has stated one flaw in Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) which he feels is that they don’t have a death bowler to rely on. RCB fast bowlers Chris Morris and Dale Steyn haven’t been at their best coming to the death overs which is a cause of concern for the RCB.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore squad have started their training after completing the mandatory quarantine. RCB have reached the final thrice, under three different captains, but they couldn’t lay hands on their IPL title. With a new coaching team, they would look to break the jinx and get their hands on the silverware.

There are some glaring weaknesses in the RCB squad: Aakash Chopra

Indian cricket-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra feels RCB have some very obvious flaws in the side which were a result of their poor auction. He feels one concern is their death over batting which is fine if AB de Villiers or Virat Kohli stay till the end, but the lower-order lacks in terms of finishing.

“There are some glaring weaknesses in the RCB squad. It is true that when you have not done well in the first big auction, you are always left behind. Because even if you try to pick players in mini auctions or trading windows, you have gaping holes and you don’t get the right players to fill them.” he said on his Youtube Channel.

“One of their problems has been their death over batting. If AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli play till the end it is fine, but if not then who? It can be a matter of concern although it is better than earlier because they have Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar and Chris Morris.”

Chopra feels they should play Indian youngsters Shivam Dube and Washington Sundar before Moeen Ali and Morris. The combination of four might work for them in the death overs.

“Dube and Sundar have played quite a bit for India and have scored runs and done their job, they are far more experienced. They should play Moeen Ali down the order and with the new acquisition Chris Morris, the four of them together can do the job even though they may not be the best in the world.”

Death over bowling is a problem for RCB: Aakash Chopra

According to Aakash Chopra RCB don’t have a gun death bowler, who is filled with confidence and won’t make mistakes under pressure.

The second problem is the death over bowling. Chris Morris is not a gun death bowler, even if you play Dale Steyn, he is also not a gun death bowler. Then who is the gun death bowler – Navdeep Saini, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj – they do not inspire the confidence that you would perhaps want.” said Chopra.
