Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) are first time going to face each other in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 on Monday (September 26). Both have so far won one match each in two matches played so far in the tournament.
Royal Challengers Banglore won their opening match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) but faced defeat against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). They will look to win the match against the defending champion to improve their position in the points table. For which, RCB will have to enter with their best playing XI.
Here, we have discussed the RCB’s predicted XI against MI
1. Devdutt Padikkal:
Although the youngster lost his wicket early in the last match against KXIP, Devdutt Padikkal had shown his potential in the opener match. While maintaining calm and composure, the Karnataka player took on the likes of Bhuvenshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan and scored his maiden IPL half-century. Against Mumbai Indians, Devdutt needs to play similar innings to give a good start to RCB.
2. Aaron Finch:
Aaron Finch, the attacking opener, is going to play a vital role for RCB against Mumbai Indians. His contribution will have a significant impact on the match result. The Aussie need to give a decent start to the franchise as MI is a solid team with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and James Pattinson in their team.
3. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli hasn’t given the expected performance in the last two matches. Against SRH, he lost his wicket after scoring 14 runs while against KXIP, he scored only one run after facing two balls. Kohli will have to play a captain knock against MI to seal the win for RCB.
4. AB de Villiers
Although the Proteas has retired from international cricket, AB de Villiers was as always in the attacking mode in the last two matches for RCB. In the opener, he scored a firing fifty to guide the team to victory. His 360-degree batting will surely play a huge role in dismantling the MI’s bowler.
5. Josh Phillipe
RCB has given the responsibility of wicketkeeping to Josh Phillipe but he has so far failed to score runs. In the last match against KXIP, he was sent to bat above Kohli which proved to be a failed tactic as he lost his wicket without scoring a run. The match against MI will be a make or break situation for him. If he again struggled to bat, the franchise would have to find his replacement.
Washington Sundar, the left-hand batsman and spinner, has given a decent amount of contribution with bat and ball. Against KXIP, he scored 30 runs off 27 balls, striking two boundaries and one four, to take the team’s score above hundred runs mark although RCB lost the match. As the pitches in UAE will become slower as the tournament goes on, the spinner is an important player in the XI.
7. Shivam Dube
The towering allrounder Shivam Dube showed his wicket-taking ability in the last match, picking two crucial wickets of Glenn Maxwell and Nicholas Pooran. However, his last over proved expensive as KL Rahul struck three fours and two sixes in his six balls. But it is happy news for RCB that Dube is also now in the option of wicket-takers.
The youngster Navdeep Saini’s bowling against Mumbai Indians will play a decisive role. Against KXIP, he could not pick wickets but his pace bowling can put MI batsmen in trouble. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has also reckoned that Saini had the opportunity to spearhead RCB’s bowling attack this season.
Dale Steyn has been the lynchpin for RCB in the past season but so far in IPL 2020, he has not given up to the mark performances. His overs have proven to be expensive as in the last match, he leaked 57 runs in his four overs. Also, he misfielded a couple of times. The Proteas need to come back stronger against MI otherwise RCB can be in great trouble.
The Indian pacer Umesh Yadav has also been not impressive with bowling in the last two matches. His overs are proving to be expensive in the powerplay as well. His one more ineffective performance might lead his ouster from XI and Isuru Udana can replace him in the next matches.
Yuzvendra Chahal is the match-winner for RCB. In the past two games, he has broken the partnerships which were proving to be a threat to the team. His performance has a huge impact on the match result. The franchise will expect him to pick early wickets of Rohit Sharma and co. to make the task easier for RCB batsmen.
