It was a surprise when Sunrisers Hyderabad decided to release Guptill. A backup opener like Guptill at Rs 1 Crore can be called as one of the best backups in the tournament but the franchise decided against retaining him. At KKR, Guptill can provide the aggressive approach that the franchise is looking for.
Since 2018, they have opened with Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn to get aggressive starts. Guptill, who is a proper batsman unlike Narin, also likes to go big right from the start. He might not bag a big price at the auction but will be one of the openers which KKR might eye at the auction. In 13 IPL matches, Guptill has scored 270 runs.
