RCB team director Mike Hesson has hinted that Virat Kohli and Aaron Finch may be the opening batsman for RCB in IPL 2020. Australian opener Aaron Finch was signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL auction in December 2019. He has gradually become one of the best openers in the world and as the rumour has it, an opening partnership with skipper Kohli would be explosive for RCB.
The Indian Premier League will be played in UAE amid the Coronavirus pandemic and will be held in three venues Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah from September 19 to November 10 amid COVID-19 protocols laid down by the ICC and BCCI.
“We are well aware of what we want, but we also want to keep our opposition guessing as well”: Mike Hesson on opening lineups for RCB
Former New Zealand head coach, Mike Hesson has said he won’t be disclosing anything until their first team is announced. He said it is a part of their strategy and they want the opponents to keep guessing until the final moment.
“Well, it’s really interesting because I did couple of hours of press conferences yesterday and never talked about Virat batting or where Aaron Finch is going to bat. And, apparently they are both opening the batting together.”
“We won’t actually be telling anybody until our first team is announced, exactly what our line-up is because that is our strategy. We are gonna wanna keep some of that up our sleeve, in terms of [the] way we use players…we are well aware of what we want, but we also want to keep our opposition guessing as well,” concluded Hesson.
RCB’s bid to win the IPL
RCB have never won the IPL, however, they have reached the final thrice, under three different captains but the IPL title has never got in their hands. Virat Kohli opened in the 2016 IPL campaign for RCB and won the orange cap scoring 973 runs in 16 matches and almost single-handedly guided RCB to finish runners-up. In 177 matches for the Bengaluru-based franchise, Virat Kohli has scored 5412 runs, including five centuries and is the highest run-getter in the IPL.
The IPL 2020 will begin from September 19 till November 10, a total 53-day campaign will see all the eight teams play in UAE. The venue this time is UAE and matches will be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
