Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has heaped praise on Abhishek Sharma for being the lone bright spot in the underperforming Sunrisers’ batting department and advised SRH management to groom him as the future captain for the 2016 champions.
The 22-year-old has been playing for the Punjab side for quite some time and has played exceptionally well in domestic cricket and in his limited opportunity for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2022 and 2023. In the last season, Abhishek scored 426 runs for the franchise at an average of 30.43.
Abhishek Sharma has been floated up and down in this edition of the Indian Premier League, as the youngster has scored 148 runs from seven games at a strike rate of 149.49. Speaking on Abhishek’s performance in the league, Harbhajan Singh said that the youngster can be the future of the Hyderabad team as he can be seen as the potential leader in the coming years.
“Abhishek is a proper batsman, who loves to open the innings. He’s been playing for Punjab for quite some time now and opens innings for them as well. He’s a player whom SRH team management should start preparing for the future and even groom him to be the future captain of the side,” Harbhajan Singh said.
The left-handed batter has been inconsistent in his batting as he could not have breakthrough seasons like Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal being playing IPL for the past years. The SRH batter can valuable with his left-arm spin bowling which was underutilized in this IPL 2023.

2011 World Cup winner Yusuf Pathan believes the young Abhishek Sharma has a bright future in the coming years, as he played some brilliant shots in this tournament he has the ability to take on the spinners and pacers at ease and reckons that he would play for the Indian team very soon.
“Abhishek Sharma has a bright future ahead of him. He’s played some brilliant shots in the tournament. He’s good against spinners, I think he’s going to play for the national side as well,” Yusuf Pathan said
Sunrisers Hyderabad has lost six games out of their nine games in the league stage and they would require to win the next five games in the league stage to keep them in the hunt for the playoffs. The Aiden Markram-led side will take on Rajasthan Royals in their next game at Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
