Indian cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar believes Arjun Tendulkar has inherited his temperament from the legendary Sachin Tendulkar watching him perform against the 2016 champions. The 23-year-old held his nerves in the final over against Sunrisers Hyderabad to concede only five runs and picked his maiden wicket in the cash-rich league.
Speaking on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar, spoke about the similarities between Sachin Tendulkar and Arjun Tendulkar as he showed excellent composure against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
“Everybody talks about the amazing talent Sachin Tendulkar had at the start of his career. But it was his temperament that was absolutely amazing, and Arjun seems to have inherited that,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
Sunil Gavaskar believes that Arjun Tendulkar is a shrewd thinker and reckons that the youngster bowled brilliantly in the final over for his team. Tendulkar was trusted to bowl the final over for the Mumbai Indians which has paid off well for the franchise.
“He seems to be a shrewd thinker as well. It’s always a good sign when a youngster is bowling the final over for the team and delivering,” added Gavaskar.
Sachin Tendulkar and Arjun are the first father-son pair to play in the Indian Premier League. The 23-year-old has been a part of MI for a couple of seasons but hasn’t gotten a chance to represent the franchise as the team was loaded with experienced pacers in the team.

Arjun Tendulkar revealed his conversation with his father ahead of the match, where they used to discuss the strategies and game plan going into a practice game, and added that he always focus on bowling good line and length for his team.
It looks like Mumbai Indians unearthed a new pacer in the form of Arjun Tendulkar, who is capable of bowling with the new ball and the final overs and they will look to maintain his form for the side.
“We (Sachin Tendulkar and him) talk about cricket, we discuss tactics before the game and he tells me to back what I practice every game. I just focused on my release, bowling good lengths and lines up front. If it swings, it’s a bonus, if it doesn’t, so be it.”
Arjun Tendulkar had a good domestic season with Goa and a decent outing in the recently-held Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, picking up ten wickets at an economy rate of just 5.69 runs per over in seven matches. Rohit Sharma-led side will return to Wankhede to take on the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Saturday, April 22.
