According to reports, Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul’s further participation in the IPL 2023 is subject to clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The 31-year-old suffered a hamstring injury during his side’s last game against the RCB and walked off the field in serious pain.
The LSG skipper chased down and tried to stop the ball from the boundary before pulling up the leg and walking out of the field in terrible pain and didn’t take part in the match before walking to bat in the 19th over to give his side a chance to chase down the total, where LSG went on to lose the match by 18 runs.
According to reports, KL Rahul’s scans will give further details about the extent of his injury, but according to reports Cricbuzz he will be managed by BCCI medical team and NCA to take calls on participation in the league. Rahul will be with the LSG squad but he will not feature in the team’s match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Wednesday in Ekana Stadium.
LSG All-rounder Krunal Pandya is likely to lead the side in the absence of their regular skipper KL Rahul. The right-hander batter is likely to few games for his side to manage his injury ahead of the all-important WTC Final and ODI World Cup later this year.
Lucknow Super Giants will look to make a comeback to winning ways against the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings as they lose high octane clash with Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday in front of their home crowd in Ekana Stadium.
Team India has struggled with a spate of injuries in recent months, which include Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Prasidh Krishna, all of whom are expected to miss most of the 2023 cricket season.
In recent months, the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, and Washington Sundar had to spend a good amount of time at the NCA due to their persistent injury issues.
I am Not Sure If KL Rahul Or The Team Thought They Could Win The Game – Simon Doull
Cricketer-turned-commentator Simon Doull believes that KL Rahul or the team could have thought that a few runs by Amit Mishra would help to improve their net run rate which may prove to be crucial for them in the final points table and said that might be the reason for KL Rahul to bat in the 11th position against RCB.
“I am not sure if he [KL Rahul] or the team thought they could win the game when he came in at No.11. What I do believe is that the net run rate is still going to be crucial later on in the tournament. So if Amit Mishra could hit four or two fours, or if KL could have got one four, they all suddenly get 12 more runs than what they were on,” Simon Doull said.
It will interesting to whether LSG bring in Mann Vohra or Quinton de Kock in place of KL Rahul for their clash against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday.
