The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will reportedly keep an eagle’s eye on the workload of the Indian players who are regular in Tests and ODIs during the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) tournament.

The IPL 2023 will begin from March 31 onwards with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) clashing in the opening match of the tournament at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

With the recent bout of injuries to the players which include Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and Prasidh Krishna, all of whom are expected to miss quite some time due to their respective injuries and possibly the IPL 2023 as well, the BCCI is in no mood to take any chance with regards to player fitness in what is a very crucial year for Indian cricket.

If Anyone Is Carrying An Injury Or Niggle In IPL 2023, The BCCI Medical Team And NCA Will Monitor: Source

The long home season for the Indian cricket team finally ended on Wednesday with a 1-2 ODI series defeat to Australia. Most players will now enjoy some much-needed break before joining their respective franchises for the IPL 2023.

However, post the IPL 2023, India will play Australia in the World Test Championship final and will then hit the road for the ODI World Cup, which begins on October 5 onwards.

And as per News18 CricketNext reports, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has already instructed the NCA (National Cricket Academy) to keep a close watch on India Test and ODI regulars and monitor their workload right through the IPL.

“It’s very clear. It’s a very crucial year and we don’t want any last minute injuries. All stakeholders have been informed that under no circumstances (will) a player be rushed to play IPL fixtures. If anyone is carrying an injury or niggle, the BCCI medical team and NCA will monitor,” said an official close to the developments.

For players, who were part of both Test and ODI squads for the Australia series, there has been very little recovery time and they will now have to switch to the T20 mode.

It has also been learned that fast bowlers will have undivided attention on their workloads during the IPL as they are repeat faces in both India’s Test and ODI squads. Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj did the bulk of the bowling against Australia in both ODIs and Tests and are expected to play a huge part in the WTC final and the World Cup.
