Chennai Super Kings have roped in South Africa’s fast bowler Sisanda Magala as a replacement for the injured Kyle Jamieson for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023).

During the IPL mini-auction in December, the 4-time IPL winners had secured Jamieson’s services for INR 1 crore. The New Zealand pacer, however, will not be playing in IPL 2023 after suffering a recurrence of a lower-back stress fracture shortly before last month’s Test series against England.

The right-arm fast-bowler is likely to be sidelined for a long time as he looks to recover from the latest injury setback. Jamieson has previously played in the IPL. In 2021, Royal Challengers Bangalore had signed him up for a whooping amount of Rs 15 crore. He, however, did not take part in IPL 2022 before registering himself in the auction for IPL 2023.

Chennai Super Kings sign up Sisanda Magala:

With Kyle Jamieson ruled out of IPL 2023, Chennai Super Kings have roped in 32-year old Sisanda Magala. The South African pacer had registered himself in the auction for a base price of INR 50 lakh but could not attract any bid from the ten franchises.

The upcoming season will be Magala’s first in the IPL. He recently had an impressive outing in SA20 where he plied his trade for eventual champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape. He finished the tournament joint-fifth on the wicket charts with 14 scalps at an economy of 8.68. Magala is also a handy lower-order batsman and has hit two half-centuries in his T20 career.

Meanwhile, IPL 2023 is scheduled to begin on March 31. Chennai Super Kings will be in action on the very first day of the tournament when they take on defending champions Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.
