Australia star David Warner will reportedly lead Delhi Capitals (DC) in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Delhi-based franchise has named the southpaw as their captain in the absence of Rishabh Pant who is currently sidelined after being involved in a horrific car accident a few weeks ago.

Pant will miss the entire season of IPL and will be replaced by David Warner as the captain of the team, according to Cricbuzz. The Australia opener had re-joined the franchise in February 2022 after Delhi Capitals secured his services for Rs 6.25 crore.

Incidentally, David Warner had started his journey in IPL with the Delhi-based franchise in 2009. In 2014, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and went on to become their captain.

“David will be our captain and Axar Patel will be his deputy,” a member of the ownership group of Delhi Capitals told the news outlet.

David Warner in IPL as captain:

David Warner is not new to being a captain in the IPL.  In 2015, SRH had named him as their captain. He led the team from the very front and finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer. In the following season, he led the side to their maiden IPL title.

The southpaw led from the front once again and finished IPL 2016 as the second highest run-scorer. He scored a staggering 848 runs at an average of more than 60 and a strike-rate of more than 151. David Warner is also one of the most decorated batsmen in the history of the IPL.
