Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Deepak Chahar took a funny dig at his teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad for bagging the best catch award against defending champions Gujarat Titans on Tuesday stating that he should have won the award for taking the final catch of the match in the 20th over.
MS Dhoni and his team marched into the IPL 2023 final for the record 1oth time following their thumping win over Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 in Chennai on Tuesday, May 23. CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad was awarded the player of the match for his brilliance with the bat and an outstanding catch of Vijay Shankar in the death over to seal the game for his side.
Speaking on the video released by IPL.tv, Deepak Chahar funnily teased his teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad for winning the best catch award and feels that he should have won the award for taking the catch of Mohammed Shami in the final ball of the Gujarat Titans innings.
“Ruturaj Gaikwad is a shameless person, he took the award for the best catch once again, I thought I should have won it. So give me one of your awards,” Deepak Chahar said.

In reply, Ruturaj Gaikwad explained to Chahar the importance of his catch, as it came at a crucial juncture of the match, and congratulated the CSK pacer for taking the catch in the final over and lauded for his performance back from the injury.

“First and foremost, the effort matters. My catch was a diving effort, that too in a crucial situation, your catch was taken after the match was done. But congrats to you, it was a really good catch, you have made a good return since coming back from injury,” Ruturaj Gaikwad said.
Both played a pivotal role in Chennai Super King’s victory against Gujarat Titans as the CSK opener scored an important 60 runs off 44 balls, and Chahar picked up the crucial wickets of Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill to help to win the game against Hardik Pandya-led side.

Indian Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad hailed their fans for supporting the team throughout the country and claimed that they would have received support even in the Narendra Modi stadium, as many fans come to see their skipper MS Dhoni and reckon that team has extra motivation to perform for the crowd.

“We did not have any away games this season. If this match was in Gujarat, the support may have been 60-40. There are so many fans who are supporting us, many fans come for Mahi bhai and CSK from afar. Sometimes people support us during their home matches, so that comes across as an extra motivation for us,” Ruturaj Gaikwad added.
Chennai Super Kings is always known for backing their players, as many players credited the franchise for keeping the team as one big family. The Chennai-based franchise made a brilliant comeback in the season after a poor season in 2022 to make it into the final of this season.
