Sunrisers Hyderabad Batting Coach Hemang Badani was pleased by his team’s performance against the Delhi Capitals in the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The Aiden Markram-led side secured their third victory in the league stage of IPL 2023.

Winning the toss, Sunrisers Hyderabad opted to bat, as their young opener Abhishek Sharma 67 (36) gave an explosive start in the powerplay as he found no support from the other end as they kept losing wickets in the middle overs, and with South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen hit an unbeaten 53 to help Hyderabad to 197-6 at the end of 20 overs.

Speaking to the media, after the victory against Delhi Capitals, Badani was happy with the intent of their batters in the powerplay and said that he was happy with the total posted by their team in 20 overs, which proved to be enough for his team.

“I liked the intent we had. I think probably just for the second time in the entire season we’ve got about 60 on the board in the powerplay, I’m pretty pleased with the target that we put on the board. If you look at other teams as well if a team posts a good target, not all of their five batters score runs. It’s always two or three batters standing up,” Hemang Badani said.

The former Tamil Nadu skipper backed the underperforming England youngster Harry Brook stating him as one of the future superstars in world cricket. The 24-year-old has scored only 163 runs from his eight matches at a poor strike rate of 125.38 including a century against KKR.

“I genuinely believe Harry will be one of the biggest names in world cricket,” he said.

Hemang Badani revealed that the think tank was a little worried when Mitchell Marsh and Phil Salt were batting in the middle and said that the idea was to change line and length to pick a few wickets in the middle overs so that their put pressure on the DC batters, which worked in the end for their side as Delhi Capitals lost wickets in quick succession.

Mayank Agarwal Not Out Of Touch, He Is A Serious Player – Hemang Badani

Hemang Badani backed their opener Mayank Agarwal as a serious player, who has experience playing for many years and also leading Punjab Kings in recent years, and said it is only a matter of time before he gets back to his usual best and added the management try to give batters enough ideas about the conditions and kinds of shots they can play on different Surfaces.

“You have to give them enough ideas and strategies on a given surface against a given attack, what are your options, what shots can you play, what’s the expected role of you. Mayank has been there for many years. He’s led Punjab. Somebody of his stature, he just needs a bit of nudging here and there, fine-tuning and it’s a question of time. He’s not out of touch, he’s a serious player,” Hemang Badani added.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the next encounter on May 4 in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
