Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson backed the flopping performance of Indian opener, Prithvi Shaw stating him as a highly-skilled Indian batter and reckons feels that their team collectively failed in the first five matches of the league stage.
Prithvi Shaw had a disastrous start to the season for Delhi Capitals, as he scored only 34 runs from five matches with the highest score of 15 runs, he had been used as an impact player in the last few games for the team, but could not give his team good start at the top of the order.
“Prithvi came off after sitting for 20 overs until the impact player rules came in. Otherwise, he would be out there running around ready to take off and run that a little bit faster. Prithvi is as skilled as any other better in India. The biggest thing for him is just to be able to allow himself to access the skills with no fear of making a mistake or getting out,” Shane Watson said.
The former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson believes Prithvi Shaw can take on world-class bowlers in any condition and it’s only a matter of time before he gets into his zone.
“He can take down the best bowlers in the world and all conditions. A player like Prithvi does not just fall out of a tree,” he added.
Prithvi Shaw was retained by Delhi Capitals (DC) for ₹7.5 crores in IPL 2023. Last year, Shaw scored 185 runs in 10 games at a strike rate of 152.9 he missed a few games due to high fever in 2022. He has been scoring runs consistently across formats in domestic cricket in all three formats but could not replicate his form in the cash-rich league.
We Were Not Able To Put A Partnership Together – Shane Watson On Delhi Capitals Loss Against RCB
Shane Watson pointed out the reason behind Delhi Capitals 5th loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore, stating that the team lost more wickets in the power play and could not build a partnership in the middle over, which led to their loss against Faf du Plessis-led side.
“Unfortunately, we were not able to put together good batting innings. Our biggest issue at this point is losing wickets in the first six overs and then consistently losing wickets. We were not able to put a partnership together and get some momentum, especially on a ground like Chinnaswamy if you can set a platform where you can score a lot of runs in the last 10 overs,” Shane Watson said.
Delhi Capitals will look to turn things around quickly and will try to register their first win against two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday in their Home ground.
