Former Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody believes that Rajasthan Royals should try Shimron Hetmyer after their skipper Sanju Samson in the batting order as he has the potential to bat more overs. The 26-year-old batted at the number 7 position for Rajasthan against Punjab Kings.

Shimron Hetmyer batted lower down the order instead of Riyan Parag and Devdutt Padikkal as they were coming at the top of the order. West Indies star batter scored 36 runs in 18 balls while batting at 7th position, as he was run out in the last over, eventually Rajasthan losing the match by 5 runs.

“I think he’s a far better player than that. He is not a (Kieron) Pollard or Andre Russell type player that’s geared for the last six overs. Both these players are IPL icons so they’ve got specific skill sets. Hetmyer can potentially do that but he is more of a complete batsman than that,” Tom Moody said.

Coming into the match, Rajasthan Royals opened with Ravichandran Ashwin and Yashasvi Jaiswal didn’t last long as their partnership was broken in the second over, followed by Butler was dismissed for 19 runs, while the RR skipper scored a quickfire 42 runs and key contributions from Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel at the end wasn’t enough for Rajasthan to win the match against Punjab Kings.

Shimron Hetmyer Was Scoring International Hundreds For The West Indies – Tom Moody

Tom Moody cited the example of Hetmyer’s batting position in the West Indies team, where he used to bat Number 3 position for the Men in Maroon, and added he can score hundreds batting at the top of the order and urged him to bat next to Jos Butler and Sanju Samson.

“We’ve seen him batting at No. 3 in 50-over cricket for West Indies, he doesn’t play a lot of cricket for them now but when he first started as a young player, (he was) scoring international hundreds for the West Indies he was a top-order player. Players of that caliber need to be out there following in the wake of Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler,” Tom Moody added.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) will take on Delhi Capitals (DC) in their third game on April 8 at Guwahati. Sanju Samson-led will look to make a comeback against Delhi Capitals. On the other hand, David Warner-led side has two back-to-back matches and will look to make a revival against Rajasthan.
