Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Mohammed Siraj was approached for inside information about his franchise during the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. According to reports, earlier this week, the RCB pacer reported a corrupt approach from a person from Hyderabad to BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit.

Mohammed Siraj has been a standout performer for the inconsistent Royal Challengers Bangalore side in IPL 2023, as he bowled exceptionally well in the power play for the Faf du-Plessis-led side and has picked up 8 wickets from five matches for RCB.

According to the report in PTI, the 29-year-old said that he got a call and promptly reported the matter to ACU officials, who are attached to the teams.

“It wasn’t a bookie who approached Siraj. It is a driver from Hyderabad who is addicted to betting on matches. He had lost huge money and approached Siraj for inside information. Siraj reported the approach immediately. The law enforcement authorities have nabbed the man. More details are being awaited,” a senior BCCI source.

Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan was suspended in 2021 as he didn’t report a corrupt approach during his IPL stint in the previous season. The Bangladesh all-rounder was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023 but later pulled out due to personal commitments.

The BCCI set up an ACU network ever since the spot-fixing scandal, involving S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan, and Ajit Chandila who played for Rajasthan Royals and then CSK team principal Gurunath Meiyappan was identified in 2013, which lead to suspension of the franchise for two years.
