Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag criticized Delhi Capitals skipper David Warner for his unhurried knock against Rajasthan Royals. Though the Australian opener scored 65 runs it came at a poor strike rate of less than 120 in a chase of 200 runs.

David Warner-led side made a poor start to their campaign as they suffered three losses in three games. The Australian opener could not accelerate at any stage of the innings in the chase, as Delhi Capitals found no match to the Sanju Samson’s led side.

Speaking on David Warner’s performance, Virender Sehwag lambasted Warner’s slow innings stating the example of a youngster of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who played a blistering knock of 60 runs off just 31 runs and also slammed him not to play the cash-rich league if he going to play with this intent in IPL.

“I feel it is time that we tell him in English now so that Warner listens to it and feels hurt. David, if you are listening, please play well. Score 50 in 25 balls. Learn from Jaiswal, he hit 25 balls. If you cannot do that, do not come and play in the IPL,”  Virender Sehwag said.

Delhi Capitals made a disastrous start to their innings losing Prithvi Shaw and Manish Pandey in the 1st over as Trent Boult breathed fire with his new ball bowling Though the skipper scored 65 runs, at the other end, batters were dismissed regularly, there was some effort shown by Lalit Yadav with his 38 runs in 24 balls as the team was bundled out for 142-9 at the end of 20 overs to face their straight third defeat in the league.

It Would Have Better If David Warner Got Out For 30 Runs – Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag said it would have been better if David Warner was dismissed early, as it would have allowed hard-hitting batters Rovman Powell and Abhishek Porel a chance to bat more balls to make an impact in the chase.

“It would have been better for the team if David Warner got out for 30 runs, rather than making 55-60. Players like Rovman Powell and Abhishek Porel could have come out much earlier and maybe could have done anything. No balls were left for those players, and they are big hitters in the team,”  Virender Sehwag added.

Though David Warner become the first overseas player to score 6000 runs in IPL, Rohan Gavaskar expressed his disappointment over David Warner’s approach in the innings as hit only 7 fours and failed to single six in the innings lasted for 19 overs and also added that if Warner was not the skipper he would have been retired out by the management.

“If you are dismissed for 8 off 8, one can say okay he couldn’t find that rhythm. But you are the captain here, you have that experience. They showed that he was the fastest to 6000 IPL runs so you can never imagine him playing these knocks. David Warner would have been retired hurt by Delhi Capitals if he was not their captain. Warner has to take responsibility for this loss,” he said.

Delhi Capitals will take on five-time champions Mumbai Indians in the fourth match of the league stage, where they will look their register their first win in this edition of the cash-rich league.
