Former Australian skipper Aaron Finch heaped praise on Delhi Capitals comeback man Ishant Sharma for his impressive bowling against defending champions Gujarat Titans on Tuesday. The Indian veteran bowled exceptional final over to help Delhi Capitals register their third victory in the league and to keep their playoff hopes alive in the IPL 2023.
The Indian veteran was at his best in the game against GT, dismissing in-form Vijay Shankar in an unplayable knuckleball in the powerplay, as the Tamil Nadu batter was completely clueless against the Delhi Capitals pacer.
With 12 runs to defend in the final overs, Ishant Sharma was trusted to bowl important overs in the game for his side and did brilliantly against the best finishers in the world Hardik Pandya and Rahul Tewatia as he conceded only six runs picking the important Tewatia in the fourth ball of the 20th over.
Speaking to Jiocinema, Aaron Finch hailed Ishant Sharma for putting in the hard work to add a few extra skills to his bowling and to load up his delivery very late to make it difficult for the batters to pick him.
“He (Ishant) certainly did step up and I think everyone who knows Ishant Sharma is really happy for him because the thing that is impressive even at his age and his experience, he’s gone away and developed extra skills, got that knuckleball now,” Aaron Finch said.
“The fact that he can load it up so late in his delivery means that he has put so much time and effort into that. Getting rewarded for it is brilliant,” he said.
The 34-year-old was brought by Delhi Capitals for 50lakhs and made it into the team after their 5 consecutive loss in the league and made an impact straight away in the league picking up 6 wickets in 4 matches at an economy rate of just over 6 runs per over.
Axar Patel Doesn’t Come Across As A Guy Who Demands Leadership – Aaron Finch
Aaron Finch believes Indian all-rounder Axar Patel is someone who doesn’t demand leadership and lauded him as a complete team man who looks after his batting, bowling, and fielding for the side irrespective of the team performance in the side.
“I think when a guy is batting so well and bowling so well like he is. He fields in the outfield and he is important to them there. For me, he doesn’t come across as a guy who demands leadership. He doesn’t want it that much. I think he is really happy about his own business, looking after his batting, bowling, and doing his job for the team,” Aaron Finch added.
Delhi Capitals registered their third win in the league stage over defending champions Gujarat Titans and will look to continue their winning momentum when they take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 6.
