Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson feels mental fatigue might be the reason for Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s dip in form for the last four to five seasons in Indian Premier League. Rohit-led Mumbai Indians are currently placed eighth in the points table and will perform well in the forthcoming games.
Rohit Sharma had an average outing for the five-time champions so far with the bat as he scored 181 runs from the seven games he played so far at a decent strike rate of 135.07. In their previous game against the defending champions, Rohit Sharma was dismissed cheaply for two runs off eight balls by Hardik Pandya.
Speaking on Rohit Sharma’s dip in form in Indian Premier League for the last few years, Shane Watson asserted that it would be a huge challenge to manage the mental aspect of the game and feels it is difficult to play non-stop cricket in the year and added that being Indian captain would add more burden to his game.
“It is a huge challenge to manage your mental energy. International cricketers around the world do play a lot of cricket, but Indian cricketers play it non-stop all year round. With Rohit Sharma now being captain of India as well, it’s even more on his plate. If he is a bit mentally fatigued, you can see why,”. Shane Watson told The Grade Cricketer.
Rohit Sharma Hasn’t Been Very Consistent At All – Shane Watson
Shane Watson claimed that Rohit Sharma was not at his usual best for the past few years, as he was not lethal opening the batting for the five-time champions, and reckoned that he was not consistent with the bat for his side and its difficult to take best bowlers in the world.
“When it comes to Rohit Sharma, we have seen him at his best, but in the last four or five years of the IPL, he hasn’t been very consistent at all. It is hard to get your head around it because he is such a gun batter when he is going, taking on all the best bowlers in the world in all different conditions,” Shane Watson added.
Rohit Sharma would look to contribute more to his team’s success in the forthcoming games as their team’s strength lies in their batting, as the bowling looks vulnerable, especially in the absence of injured Jofra Archer, who has played only two games for his side.
The five-time champions will look to stage a comeback after back-to-back defeats against Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans when they take on table toppers Rajasthan Royals in their home ground on April 30.
